The Black Church

Black Church, Brașov County

The bell tower of the Black Church (Biserica Neagră) in Brașov. Originally a Roman Catholic Church called the Church of Saint Mary, the building was repurposed as a Lutheran place of worship during the Protestant Reformation. It later became known as the Black Church after it was blackened by smoke and partially destroyed by invading forces during the Great Turkish War.
